Tengo dudas sobre el término en inglés para capas geológicas y quisiera confirmar con los expertos :)

"Museo de los Volcanes se plantea con la idea de poder explicar la teoría del origen
del universo (Big Ban), la formación de los volcanes a través de las distintas capas
geológicas y la aparición del hombre a través de nuestros pueblos originarios."

Encontré estas opciones:
- Geological layers (aunque nos sé si debiera ser Geologic layers)
- Tectonic plates

¿Alguien sabe si son sinónimos o existe diferencia?
