Spanish to English translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Government / Politics
Spanish term or phrase:estado civil
(Obama) Prometió fortalecer el estado
civil y el sistema judicial, luchar contra las
violaciones de derechos humanos en el marco
de la defensa de la democracia y promover la
seguridad a través del fortalecimiento institucional
Initially this phrase, "estado civil" was marked as "non-pro" and when I looked at it, I had my doubts about the traditional translation of "marital status" so I marked it "pro" and cautiously marked my confidence level at only "3."
Luis's selection, along with Marian's explanation, confirmed for me that Luis's answer is the correct one in this context. As a result, besides supporting Luis's answer, I withdrew my answer because I am really convinced it is NOT "marital status" in this particular context. And, after Marian's good explanation, I am now convinced that Luis hit the nail on the head.
