Spanish term or phrase: (el) amor al prójimo que sintetiza Jesús
I'm baffled by this.

First, who or what is the subject of the verb "sintetiza" in the following sentence (talking about the notion of common good)?

En el liberalismo progresista está implícito como la mera recuperación de la razón y la sensatez en el orden social y se expresa en el imperativo categórico kantiano como una reformulación del amor al prójimo que sintetiza Jesús.

el amor al prójimo?
el prójimo?
or Jesús?

And how to translate "sintetiza"? It's weird.

I'm actually giving Marcela the points for being the first person to point out (in her discussion entry) what should have been obvious to me all along: that Jesus truly was the subject of the verb. As for translating that, "embodied" was a good shout, and so I thought were "personified", "exemplified" and "preached about". But I've come full circle on "sintetiza".
It does simply mean "synthesise" - in the Hegelian, Marxian sense. It sounds a bit weird, it's not pretty, but I'm convinced that is the best translation of the word in that context. For other contexts, these were all great suggestions. Many thanks.

agree  Wendy Streitparth: prefer "personified"

-> Thanks, Wendy, you may be right.

agree  Charles Davis: "Personified" is good, but I quite like "embodied" here. I agree with your interpretation: "of which Jesus is the synthesis", as you might say. Perhaps "concept of loving thy neighbour".

-> Thanks, Charles; yes, that probably works better.

disagree  Diana Kozenitzky Andrés: No dice: "que sintetiza a Jesús", sino: "que sintetiza Jesús" - o "que Jesús sintetiza" . Es decir: la predicación de Jesús es el amor al prójimo. Jesús habla del amor al prójimo. Simplemente eso. El sujeto de la oración es Jesús.

-> Sí, fue lo que dije en el discussion entry. El uso de la pasiva en la opción que sugerí cumple la función de indicar que Jesús es el sujeto.

agree  James A. Walsh: I prefer "personified" too. Perhaps "the 'love thy neighbour'concept that Jesus personified".

of the love toward our neighbor that Jesus preached/es about.

Explanation:
The word for "sintetiza" would be "preaches"
"Jesús"is the subject of the sentence, "sintetiza" is the verb or predicate. As simple as that.
I hope I made myself understood, English is not my mother tongue.
