Spanish to English translations [PRO] Social Sciences - History / military expression | | Spanish term or phrase: acantonamiento/acantonar tropas | Hi ProZ,
After some searching I've wound up with the terms "station", "billet" and "canton", but I think I'm rather looking for a set phrase here.
Context describes a country struggling to put an end to a civil war in which successive ceasefires, truces and peace accords have all been broken. The UN demands both parties to show their commitment to peace and this follows:
"...hay encuentros, acercamientos, acuerdos, acantonamiento de tropas y se envían fondos millonarios para la rehabilitación del país."
The idea of demobilization also came to mind, but I don't think it applies either. The idea seems to be "keep the troops in their camps", but I feel there might be a set phrase for this.
Thanks for your help!

First and foremost, thanks a million for your help - such good ideas and suggestions. I finally found a reference which described the situation in my exact context and it matched Gerardo's answer:

Sorry it took so long - it's a very long report and I'm only just starting to review what I'd already done.

| | quartering / to quarter troops | Explanation: Hola Álvaro:
Así lo traduce el Larousse inglés-español y me parece más preciso si nos atenemos a la definición del DRAE enviada por Swatchka. En esencia acantonar significa "dar alojamiento [a tropas]". Suerte. :-)
