Explanation:
All the other responses are perfectly possible. I'm a history graduate and edit a historian and sort-of write history. They/we love "the curious thing is...". It's quite close to a literal translation of "se da el hecho curioso". My only criticism of the other answers is that they are too elegant and linguistic, i.e. not historical enough.
