Social Sciences - History / Yrigoyen quotation

profligacy and the licentious indulgence in material pleasures

Explanation:
... driven by profligacy and...

NB, you could replace licentious indulgence with over-indulgence.

The rest of the question is a separate question. After all, how would you be able to grade the question if the best responses to each separate half came from 2 separate Answerers?

agree  Charles Davis: I would cut "the" -- profligacy and licentious indulgence -- but otherwise perfect! And I quite agree that this is as much as can be expected in one question.

-> many thanks Charles! Inclined to agree re that "the", although I feel it slightly changes the emphasis here. However, wherever possible, I do prefer to opt for fewer words rather than more... :)

Explanation:
I've tried to use neutral terms since the author is not "passing judgment" on anyone, just trying to give a warning

icentiousness and uncontrolled enjoyment of material pleasures, nothing but conglomeration

Explanation:
"libertinaje" can be translated directly as libertinism or libertinage, although licentiousness seems to get the point across more accurately given the context of excess and debauchery
