Spanish term or phrase: no pasábamos tanto trabajo
Sentence: "...como siempre tenía la maña de cogerme y darme plata para que yo no dijera nada, antes creía que era bueno que estuviera en la casa porque daba plata y no pasábamos tanto trabajo..."

I'm not quite sure whether this means 'we didn't have much work' or 'we didn't have to work much'.

I'd be grateful if someone could confirm for me.

Best wishes

disagree  mauri4860: I don't agree, the connotation this phrase has in spanish is "it made things easier for us". It's a matter of collocation. "work much" means "trabajar mucho", and it connotates a different thing.

It made things easier for us

Explanation:
The connotation of the phrase "no pasabamos tanto trabajo" hasn't much to do with "work". It means something like "It made things easier for us"
