Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Internet, e-Commerce / Service provision agreeme
Spanish term or phrase: Registro Social
SPAIN. My query is whether this is a L.Am. equivalent of the Registro Civil in Spain, or if the "social" part refers to companies (sociedades).
Here is an example (not my source text) from Ecuador:
"El Registro Social es un catastro nacional de información individualizado por familias que permite identificar la Clasificación Socio-Económica de las familias y personas que serán potenciales beneficiarias de los programas y proyectos sociales del Estado"

Explanation:
I do not think that this is the equivalent of the Registro Civil and I would therefore not translate it as such.

Also, based on the context here, I do not think that "social" is referring to "sociedades" (companies) but rather "sociedad" (society).

Although the context of the following is not identical, it is in the ballpark:

This Decree merged the General Bureau of Registries (Dirección General de Registros), the Land Property and Mortgages Registry (Registro de la Propiedad Raíz e Hipotecas), the Social Registry of Real Estate (Registro Social de Inmuebles), the National Geographic Institute (Instituto Geográfico Nacional), the Registry of Commerce (Registro de Comercio) and the National Cadastre (Catastro Nacional) and thus consolidated all land registration and information functions in one single institution.

Asker: Thanks Richard, but my problem is that the context is very thin, it's in an alphabetical list from an EDI logistics form: Nº identificación IVA Nº línea Nº Lote Nº registro social Nº. cajas por capa de palé etc. So that's why I think it may be a companies register. I'm also not sure if it's for Mexico or not...
