Spanish to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - IT (Information Technology) / computerised maintenance management system | | Spanish term or phrase: situación de históricos de equipos obtenidos en GMAO | I'm afraid, to me this is so ambiguous as to be meaningless.
What do others think, please - would be great if a Spanish speaker could simply re-write int more clearly :P
Thanks!

| | (Detailed) history for equipment obtained in the CMMS | Explanation:
Doesn't seem particularly ambiguous to me. I just read it as whatever process is being referred to must be capable of maintaining a 'detailed history for equipment obtained in the CMMS' (Computerised Maintenance Management System), i.e., any hardware/software changes, maintenance, etc.
Hope this helps.

Hi Comunican, from my own experience of managing a helpdesk, I'm pretty sure they're using 'obtained' here to indicate that equipment may be automatically logged in the CMMS by the system. This would normally just be 'logged' on the system by operators (or whatever IT staff), but 'obtain' is used to distinguish that it may not be logged/tracked by humans.

CMMS systems usually have a 'discovery mode' in which the system searches for unique machines (by IP address) and automatically loads them into an equipment inventory, where it keeps a detailed history of that equipment, be it servers, desktops, laptops, printers or whatever...

Maybe putting it '...obtained BY the CMMS' might be slightly less ambiguous...? |

Asker: Hi James. Thanks for your reply. As with Mike, I find the "obtained in the Computerised Maintenance Management System" ambiguous. And am assuming now that it means "obtained while using the CMMS", pending any other takes on it....
Asker: Thanks James - useful background there... and "obtained BY" definitely looks better to me. Cheers
