Well, I believe we need to use a bit of perspective here: a five kilometers stretch if you think about it is no large area compared to the vast extense of an ocean extending for thousands of Kms. in all directions, therefore the usage of the terms conglomerato/cluster isn't out of place. As for the flotsam and jetsam outside the five kilometers area the original text does mention "otros rastros"... An aircraft that disintegrates mid-air - as it may conceivably have happened here - will easily scatter its wreckage over huge areas right from the start, without even starting to consider the action of high seas currents. While 'cluster' - already suggested in two answers - is a fair enough translation of 'conglomerado', I fail to see how that imagery relates to these bits and pieces of aircraft being 'scattered' ("se extendía") over a patch of ocean five km long. And it's even less appropriate, methinks, when other reports say pieces have been found 300 km away.
