Spanish term or phrase: aventurarse
aventurarse en la libertad de caminar al aire libre

En un paraje boscoso de Canadá, en una isla de la costa de Florida, algunos cientos de chimpancés que han sobrevivido a los laboratorios, a los circos, a las jaulas inmundas, tienen la ocasión de encontrarse en espacios comunes en los que pueden descubrir el regocijo de la vida social e incluso aventurarse en lo que no recuerdan haber conocido, la libertad de caminar al aire libre.

agree  Carolingua: ok but there is a verb missing in the sentence. It should be "and even of taking the chance to *experience* something unknown to them". Perhaps I am reading it wrong, but usually when I hear "taking the chance" it is followed by "to do XXX".
