Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Law: Taxation & Customs
Spanish term or phrase: autoliquidación
The context is one of those forms for Hacienda, say, that gives step-by-step instructoions for you to calculate - for yourself - the amount you owe, for a license say.

I have seen this translated as

AUTOLIQUIDATION (which sounds totally meaningless to me)

SELF-ASSESSMENT (which seems incomplete to me, as it does not cover the concept of taking the form to the bank and paying automatically. Because , in my particular document, the mere fact of paying automatically grants you a right to go ahead with your business, with no more ado)

My own idea is AUTO-PAYMENT or AUTOMATIC PAYMENT

I would be very grateful for your opinions, please!!!

self-assessment (tax form/return)
Explanation:
I'm afraid I'm one of those people who've translated this as above, and defend it!!

If you run this through Google, you'll see that I'm not the only one!!

I don't see why "autoliquidación" also has to imply taking it to the office and paying it (or going to the bank and getting them to pay to it, etc.)

Explanation:
Hello Ailish:-)
I agree with you on the self-assessment bit as this would only cover the calculations. I think the above is what I'd put myself...though I have no specific grounds for my answer.

Hope it helps:-)

self-clearing

Explanation:
Hey Ailish,

I've also seen 'autoliquidation' but only in texts/Web sites translated from South American Spanish. I once translated it to 'self-clearing' after seeing it used in one US site.

See first link below for autoliquidación/self-clearing

and second link for how self-clearing is used in a Western banking concept

I think they give...

self-assessment

Explanation:
sorry, me again, forgot to include reference
Self Assessment is the new way of working out tax and applies to anyone who is self employed including business partners.

Self-assessment requires that YOU fill in your return giving full details of all taxable income and gains you received in the year, and claim any allowances as well. This means that you are responsible for ensuring that you pay the right amount of tax, even if you do not actually work out the tax yourself

self-assessment tax return gives 723 hits,

self-assessment tax form 45
