"Hoy los ministros de Justicia y del Interior explicarán la posición del Gobierno a los parlamentarios del PSOE. Todo para hacer pedagogía frente a la letal acusación de que se facilita la excarcelación a peligrosos asesinos." I am suffering a complete mental block here, could anybody please give me a nice English translation for rendering this? Many thanks.

I don't see how "educate" works within the context of the sentence.

2.
While "enlighten" would preserve the formal register of the original, I also think it doesn't really work within the context of this sentence. Moreover, it seems like it would be difficult to use it without sounding pompous or ironic (i.e., it would sound like the speaker is saying, "We know we are right, we just need to convince these morons in the PSOE party of our rectitude and wisdom."
