I found this term in the ProZ glossaries meaning "human rights office" in Colombia. However, my case is from Panama. Does anyone know what this means in that country? I have very little context, just that a person giving an affidavit states:

Explanation:
Personería = Facultad de representación.

Personería = Cargo o ministerio de personero
Personero = Procurador para entender o solicitar negocios ajenos.
Dicc. Real Academia

Procurador = Solicitor (i.e. the chief law officer of a municipality, county, or government department).

Hope this helps!

***Jeanne,

In Robb\'s dictionary of legal terms I found other translations for Personero which could be helpful:
1. official representative
2. a city official who frequently directs most of the city\'s business.

I also found that the \"Personería\", in this particular context refers simply to the \"office of the personero\".
