recognition of parentage Explanation: as in this text: The Recognition of Parentage (ROP) form is for parents who are not married to each other who have a child together. The ROP is voluntary. Each parent decides whether to sign the Recognition of Parentage. It is a good idea to sign the Recognition of Parentage to give the child a legal father. That way, if the parents decide not to live together, or if something should happen to the father, the child will have the benefits of having a legal father. Also, if something should happen to the mother, that child will have a legal parent to help the child. If you wish to sign a ROP, you may do so at the hospital when the child is born, at the Minnesota Department of Health Vital Statistics Section, or by applying for services at your local child support office. The ROP is the same as a court order that says who the parents of a child |
