Proper name Explanation: the translation for "partido" is county, district, area, so it´s the name of a county, as ybroad has said. |

Municipality Explanation: The way I have usually heard "partido" in my native Cuba (virtually a carbon-copy of the Spanish system, being the last colony to break away from Spain) is in "partido municipal", i.e., the area over which the Courts of the city had jurisdiction (it was also used for voting purposes). It seems that "district", as someone has already suggested, is a safe equivalent (what if "Cala" is not technically a city and therefore not a municipality). It should not be a county, as Spain does not have "condados" and it gives a pre-defined concept that may not fit the reality of that township. Hope this helps. |
