That the cable companies may have substantial claims upon rejection does not mean that rejection is not in the best interest of the estate. This is so primarily because the rejection claims will be paid cents on the dollar as general unsecured claims. If the value added to the estate is any substantial portion of the rejection claim (say 50%), and the dividend to unsecured creditors remains less than that percentage, rejection will increase the dividend to general unsecured creditors, even while it causes an increase in the total amount of allowed claims. Indeed, it is this calculus that provides the value of the rejection power.
