Spanish term or phrase: mandante / comitente

Can someone please explain the difference between these 2 terms. Also mandato and comision.

This is a clause in the Mexican Law of Credit Institutions that says:

"A las instituciones de credito les estara prohibido responder a los fideicomitentes, mandantes o comitentes del incumplimiento de los deudores por los creditos que se otorguen..."

Explanation:
I quote from a recent Mexican Dictionary.

Mandante: principal, person granting a power of attorney or a proxy (in Louisiana mandator)

Comitente: principal, in business law the principal under a contrato de comisión mercantil.

So they are both principals, which is not terribly helpful if you want to distinguish between them. One way that occurs to me would be to call the comitente a "principal under Article 273 of the Mexican Commercial Code".

On the whole though, I don't think it's worth bothering, especially as a quick search through the Mexican Law of Credit Institutions shows that the terms are never used separately. The two concepts are distinguished in Mexican Law, but are both included in the Common Law concept of "principal".

As to the difference between mandato and comisión, mandato is defined in Article 2546 of the Civil Code as follows: "El mandato es un contrato por el que el mandatario se obliga a ejecutar por cuenta del mandante los actos jurídicos que éste le encarga".

Article 273 of the Commercial Code has this to say about "comisión mercantil":
"El mandato aplicado a actos concretos de comercio, se reputa comisión mercantil. Es comitente el que confiere comisión mercantil y comisionista el que la desempeña.
