Spanish term or phrase: base de comparación
SPAIN: This looks like it should be "comparison base" but I can't find any references for it in English.
"fon. base de comparación: Conjunto de rasgos pertinentes comunes a dos o más fonemas en oposición fonológica. Así, la base de comparación de la oposición /p/ /b/ será el conjunto de rasgos [+ consonante, + oral, + bilabial]."

neutral  Jim Tucker: maybe - asker will also see "comparative base" in phonological discussions, as here in OCS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Church_Slavonic_grammar -- these contexts are concrete rather than abstract or general. (cf root/stem/base)
