Cierto, Charles. Cuando pienso en Navidades tal como las describen en este contexto, pienso en hacer un esfuerzo, disimular sin compartir el sentimiento de la mayoría de hacer lo típico, comprar regalos a veces sin tener dinero para hacerlo, licencia para pasarse de la raya con la comida, tener el compromiso de ir a fiestas y codearse con gente que uno no quiere ni ver... asi lo entiendo.

To me, what the speaker says about Christmas just before this implies that no. 2 is the intended meaning , though for many people it may well be closer to no. 1.

Christmas is stressful or, if you like, overwhelming for a number of people, but this speaker seems to find it dispiriting rather than overwhelming. In fact he or she doesn't seem to feel very involved in it at all.

Overeating, overspending, wishing people a good holiday without meaning it, it's all a farce/sham! There's no doubt, the thought of Christmas overwhelms me.
