Explanation:
I translated a large book on the subject. Unfortunately, your term is used inconsistently in Spanish, and I could not find a definitive answer to your question. By international agreement of the IUCN, Threatened Species go on the "Redlist" and Endangered Species go on an "orange list." The respective Spanish equivalents are USUALLY "en peligro de extinción" and "en vía(s) de extinción" -- however, often these two Spanish phrases are used interchangeably. Note the confusion below.

A Google search shows 52 hits for ["en vías de"+endangered] and 17 hits for "en vías de"+threatened], possibly because "threatened" is less commonly used in the context of vanishing species (["en peligro de"+endangered] had 544 hits and "[en peligro de"+threatened] had 273 hits).
