"arranque" is used on many occasions to describe the first stage of the animal's feeding:
"Producto específico para el arranque de terneros muy jóvenes"
"producto prearranque de ruminantes"
"Suministrando 3 a 4 kg por lechón en función del peso inicial del animal se consigue un óptimo arranque"
I would normally associate "arrancar" with machines, so was quite surprised to see it in reference to cows and pigs!
