Spanish term or phrase: absorberse

What are they going on about? what are they absorbed by? Or they they just disappear up their own ... ? It's got me stumped. Thanks for your help.

Explanation:
I am not 100% sure of this, but I think the heart of the problem is that this word means what Rosa says it means, but one wouldn't use absorbed in this way in contractual English.

This kind of language gives me a headache, but here is my take: I think Rosa and Phil perceive "absorbed" to be "by the party that was supposed to make the payments (or by obligations they have)" and they are right. You might wish to think of this as "retained" (by the company) instead of being paid out. But, best not say "retained", because that implies that the money still exists, whereas the lannguage here treats the money as possibly having already been "absorbed" by other obligations. The tricky part is to find a better verb, one that will sound less biological. and admit of the passive in a way that draws less attention to the assumed processes of the money...disappearing.
