Having researched it a bit myself, I\'ll give that more confidence. It refers to the width between the wheels from one side of the vehicle to the other. Often close to 6 ft.

Explanation:
La banda de rodadura es la parte del neumatico que esta en contacto con el suelo. So I think it refers to the width of the part of the tyre/tire (tyre in UK, tire in US) that is in contact with the road. This is not the treads, but the part of the tyre where the treads are. There will then be another part of the tyre (el flanco), that is wider that the "banda de rodadura". I suppose rodadura is just short for banda de rodadura.
