Explanation:
As far as I can tell, this could be related to an intra-craneal pressure monitor. A peak in intra-craneal pressure could cause cerebral edema and is therefore treated as an emergency; hence the need of real-time monitoring. And yes, this kind of monitor is a piece of equipment.

Correction: AeC2009 is right, it should be transducer, not *transductor. Beware of false friends!
