Spanish term or phrase: zonas no presentes (possible typo/error)
From a paper introducing a new algorithm to be used in high-res lung CTs

Is it just me or is this very badly expressed? I don't see how things which are not present can be detected

So far I have this:

In order to do so, those areas which do not have a diameter greater than 25 mm are identified in the binary images obtained from the lobes. The are normally eliminated in the second phase due to the fact that they have a grey level which is greater than that of the lobes, marking them to ensure that they do not appear in the final result.

But I'm worried I have radically altered the sense of the original. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Many thanks

gaps
Explanation:
You have my sympathy!! This text is very confusing. I'm not sure you have it right. The first part might be something like:

"This way it will be possible to detect gaps larger than 25 mm in the binary images of the lobes*, which would normally be eliminated** ..."

*I don't think "obtenidas" is important here.
**Verb doesn't agree, but I think it's a lapse.

I think the idea is that these gaps would normally blend in/be covered up/blotted out in the second round because the images are grayer than the normal tissue.
