From my limited understanding of microbiology: A culture is grown or cultivated ON a 'plate'; a 'plaque' is what is found IN the culture on that plate. I think that the sentence below from Cristina's reference illustrates this. And again one of the definitions of 'plaque' from my basic dictionary: "a clear area in a bacterial culture produced by destruction of cells by a virus" [and bacteria, too, according to the reference below]. |
