Spanish term or phrase: 87% pacientes respond.
I'm not sure if the phrase '87% pacientes responden.' can be translated as '87% of patients respond' or if it would be better to translate the verb in the past tense in Englis as 87% of patients responded. It still doesn't sound much like English to me. Could we say '87% of patients responded favourably.' instead?

Here's the whole sentence:

Nplate® mantiene los recuentos plaquetarios en el largo plazo (87% pacientes responden).

Explanation:
If your document is reporting the results of a research study, then I think it should be in the past tense in English. I don't see a good reason to add 'favourably' because this is going beyond what your source text says.

Explanation:
The ver should be in the present tense. The sentence refers to what happens when the drug is administered, and what is to be expected, not just to what happened in a particular case.

agree  fvasconcellos: if they are quoting a response rate from a clinical trial, it should be past tense, but this sort of collocation is very common; it's the source usage, and, however misleading, it should be kept
