Materials and methods: The imaging studies of 30 patients, 18 male and 12 female (between 39 and 77 years old; mean age: 58) with acute findings of intestinal obstruction were reviewed from March 2001 to June 2002. All patients underwent abdominal X-rays in standing and decubitus positions followed by HTC. In each method the presence or absence of obstruction as well as the level and cause of obstruction were evaluated.

correction...lateral decubitus is lying down on your side, decubitus just means lying down...BUT supine is lying on your back w/ face up, so there is a difference and they do differentiate the two in x-ray projections.
