I think that the addition of "kind of" weakens the phrase, but it is more near the original.
I had also thought of "a sort of abandonment", but possibly that's not the real meaning of the sentence.

Explanation:

Serendipitous means "fortunate by accident", so by saying "seemingly serendipitous" you are saying it seems like a lucky accident, but in reality it was well-honed and planned.

I am reading it this way because the word "suerte" though it can mean "sort of" or kind of, etc. also means "luck", so one thought led me to another...
