To me, "stalked" is somewhat different to "ravaged", in that "stalked" has some sort of follow-up perhaps - meaning, it is more controlled and measured in the first instance (hence the "stalking"), but these controls and measures don't work or "fail";
"Ravaged", on the other hand, is just pure desperation, and the feeling of complete and utter abandonment, without anyone getting involved.
They are both technical terms, but there is a distinct difference; especially for those living under the conditions that define these circumstances.
