It must be the Catalan word for "embate": "Vientos periódicos del Mediterráneo, después de la canícula (Diccionario Ilustrado Larousse"). See the following extract the "Copa del Rey" Regata held in Mayorca: "A la hora de dar la salida, el Embat, finalmente, soplaba con su fuerza habitual, unos 12 nudos, dando a la Bahía su mejor aspecto.
