| | | Las Sepulturas (The Tombs) district | Explanation: Las Sepulturas forms part of the ruins, a mile from the main site. You’ll pass workers with machetes keeping the jungle off the road who now and then lift their heads from their arduous work to say hello. Once you enter the ruins, there is a long unmarked trail through the woods. This area was supposedly a wealthy suburb of the main city. It’s a sprawling site, but I was the only person there. While there isn’t as much to see as the main site, Las Sepulturas is very beautiful and, above all, peaceful. Pack a light picnic to enjoy among the tranquil stones.
