Tech/Engineering - Paper / Paper Manufacturing / cardboard packaging
Spanish term or phrase: cartulina chilena
Context:

Material: cartulina chilena
Gramaje total: Maul(l)e calibre 18

This is from a tech spec for pharmaceutical packaging. I suspect the original is from South America, possibly Colombia, although I can't confirm that at the moment. My searches have led to some sort of cardboard (see http://www.cipb.net/index.php?section=56) but that's as far as I've got. Chilean (card)board doesn't seem to get many hits so I'm pretty much stumped.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Chilean card(board)
Explanation:
I think it simply means 'card(board) made in Chile'. See here, for example, which comes from a Mexican trade directory:

http://pr40.quiminet.com/Coco+de+Palma+Chilena+Natural.htm?r...

"adhesivo para cartulina Chilena y Europea"

This suggests that the two (main) sources supplying the Mexican market are Chile (which is indeed a major exporter of paper products to the rest of Latin America) and Europe, not that 'cartulina chileno' is a specific type of card.

Andrew's other question (fajilla) also has traces of 'Mexico' in the terminology.

Thanks Media. It seems a bit of an odd phrase but this is what I went for. If the client comes back to me then I'll add a post-grading comment.

Chilean cardboard

Explanation:
Looking at the link you indicate I can see that it is a Colombian company selling Chilean cardboard manufactured by the mill Maule, which is one of the two mills producing boards in Chile and owned by CMPC group. Cardboard is stiffer than paper and is generally produced from higher quality materials than is paperboard.

unless this is something very specific to Chile, why not just "cardboard"?
