Spanish to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Poetry & Literature / Children's literature | | Spanish term or phrase: a manera de prueba | Perhaps this one is just staring me in the face and I'm not seeing it! I can't seem to find the words to translate this phrase in the following context:
"En el acto todos corrieron, y *a manera de prueba* se colocaron sobre cada uno de los asientos".
Thanks....Bill |
| | Clarification request(s) and responseBill Greendyk: 6:21pm Sep 14, 2007: MORE CONTEXT - This is a children's story. The seats are multicolored and represent different emotions -- love, kindness, etc. The different characters are "trying out", I suppose, the different chairs to see which one best suits them. Lydia De Jorge: 7:12pm Sep 14, 2007: I think either 'testing out' or 'trying out' would work. Much like when we go to buy a sofa or chair and we sit on it to test it out before buying it.

Thanks Bill and good luck with the rest of the book - sounds HarryPotterish. |

| Note from asker to answererAfter receiving illustrations from the book's author, I realize that the children were simply "trying out" the different chairs to see which "emotion" best suited them (as I had suspected above!). In my opinion and in all fairness, Lydia's answer comes closest to what I've chosen. Thanks everyone else for you help with this! 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer |
