Spanish term or phrase: Se armó la gorda
La Revolución Unionista de 1868, a causa de la cual la reina Isabel II se vio forzada a abandonar el poder, vino precedida de un insistente rumor callejero, en el que utilizando la muy castiza expresión de la Gorda, se proclamaba a los cuatro vientos la inevitabilidad de los acontecimientos.

Es decir, la gente aludía a la Gorda como un hecho consumado, como una cosa ya hecha: la Gorda ya está en camino... se va armar la Gorda... hasta que, finalmente, en setiembre de ese año, verdaderamente, se armó la Gorda con el pronunciamiento militar del marino Juan Bautista Topete y Carballo en Cádiz y de Primo de Rivera en Madrid.

Históricamente, el hecho tomó el ostentoso nombre de La Gloriosa, pero su duración fue efímera; no así el castizo alias que el pueblo le adjudicó: La Gorda, expresión que luego extendió su uso al lenguaje familiar, cuando alguien quiere referirse a cierto hecho ruidoso o de mucha trascendencia, o bien ante una situación de extrema gravedad.
