Una manera para decirlo, aunque no lo encuentro tampoco.

youth thrives on enthusiasm

Explanation:
Keeping in mind that Descartes was a rationalist, I suggest you stay with "enthusiasm" - it more clearly maintains the "earthly" sense basic to his thinking, and it sustains the idea that although the present may be difficult and the future unknown, life moves inevitably forward (recurrent themes in his work). And precisely because young people do not consider consequences (in fact are often incapable of imagining them), they are able to throw themselves forward with joy and ENTHUSIASM - they can live on this alone.

disagree  Carol Gullidge: sorry but "nurtures on" and "nurturing in" don't work in English//sadly, you can't rely on everything you find on Google. Your link looks rather like a bad translation :(( ... "Nurture" is a transitive verb, requiring a direct object

-> The Deir El Ahmar vineyard, which is located 112 km from the Winery in Basbina, nurtures on rich red clay soil. http://www.ixsir.com.lb/media/vineYards.swf?nocache=12299040... It may depend on the context then. Thanks Carol !

Youth lives on hope

Explanation:
There is a french proverb 'Youth lives on hope, old age on remembrance'. Could this be from Descartes?
