Spanish to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Poetry & Literature / love philosophy | | Spanish term or phrase: ...y no le das la espalda | Y no le das la espalda
I translated this thought as:
"and you do not turn it away" as I chose a rather metaphorical twist with the verb "perch" (bird
personification)...
Yet after much consideration and as it is the grand finale of a huge translation project I am beginning to doubt my
translation is fitting so I am resorting to your
wonderful help, fellow prozies, thanks a million to you all.
Source text:
Así que esto es amor, tan exigente, nutritivo y difícil como nunca, y tan fuerte y sabio como te sabe hacer ser. Hay algo que ganar por comprometerse. Existen recompensas por permanecer cuando uno preferiria marcharse. Y hay algo digno de comentar por el hecho de subir veloz esa colina
cuando uno preferiría deslizarse por la ladera.
Y de esa manera permites que el amor se acerque y se pose sobre tu hombro. Y no le das la espalda. Y bailan un tango.
My translation:
So this is love. As demanding and nourishing and difficult as it can be. And as strong and wise as it makes you become. There is something to be gained from commitment. There are rewards for staying when you would rather leave. And there is something to be said for running up that hill when you would rather slide down it.
And so you let your love come perch upon your shoulder. And you do not turn it away. And you do the tango.
Thank ever so much for helping me out,
Happy St. Valentine´s Day!

| Note from asker to answererA remarkable group of translators : my heartfelt thanks!!! I guess I was light years away from the right interpretation yet Jerry pretty much balanced it out, I´m positive your option (and George´s tango for two) will linger in the reader´s mind long afterwards, and I needed such impact. I had thought nothing had been overlooked yet Cecilia and George spotted my "your" love blunder...I owe you guys! If I could only assign kudoz to you all...what I can do is thank you one by one :))
Cecilia: Your version is inspired and inspiring, eternally beautiful, layers of sensitivity in your translation, you are so talented.
George: I salute that vital, creative, sympathetic quality about you that transforms translators into writers. I really crave your eternally beautiful "tango for two" which I will use (by the way I am posting the phrase so you are awarded the deserved kudoz!)
Gabriel: Your answers -as this- are always so beautifully realized and very detailed. I genuinely enjoy and learn reading your kudoz contributions.
Taurus: You deliver such freshness and enthusiasm...you seem constantly reinventing yourself!
Victor: Your option remains true and reverent toward the source language, mine was an easy cheap shot yet yours provides aesthetic and linguistic value...if I could only use all your valuable input!!!
Una gran ayuda che!
