Printing using zinc and magnesium plates

They have just been, coated in photo emulsion, exposed to light and developed in water/soda or methylene chloride

Posteriormente tras un pequeño lavado y oxidado de las planchas éstas son introducidas en una mezcla de agua, ácido nítrico y aditivos donde se lleva a cabo el grabado.

I thought "oxygenating the plates" but I can't find any references on google to this effect
