Spanish to English translations [PRO] Social Sciences - Psychology | | Spanish term or phrase: autocompasión | Hi there,
I recently came across the word autocompasión in a news article about parents with autistic children. Here are the opening 2 sentences for context, and the focus word comes at the end.
SENTENCES FROM ARTICLE:
Hace unos años, Nicole Torres entró a una sala de la oficina de Family Fundamentals de Lakeland como la única madre de un hijo a quien le habían diagnosticado autismo grave. Cuando hablaba con un representante de la agencia que ayuda a los padres de niños con discapacidades, le habría quedado fácil a Torres hundirse en la desesperación y autocompasión.
My guess for autocompasión is self-pity, but the word isn't on proz or wordreference so I wanted to see what you all thought. Also, is this word widely understood across Latin America or only in certain countries or circles (e.g., psychologists, academics) within a given country?
Thanks for any input and have a great day! |
