¿Qué es eso del "Gran"? Es un texto sobre los niveles de delincuencia en Chile y aparecen esas tres ciudades mencionadas brevemente. La pregunta es, ¿Por qué no dijo simplemente "Santiago, Concepción, Valparaíso y Viña del mar"? ¿Cómo lo dejo en Inglés con esa variable? ¿Qué significa?

Explanation:
These are the three largest cities in Chile, therefore, more exposed to crime. As such, they all have their surroundings, villages, suburbs, etc. that fall into the area, exactly like "the Greater DC metro area" includes part of Virginia and Maryland.

Explanation:
Cuando se dice "el Gran" seguido por el nombre de una ciudad, se refiere no únicamente a la ciudad en si, sino a los suburbios, zonas industriales, etc aledañas. Por lo tanto puedes también usar "Santiago, Concepción and Valparaiso metropolitan areas and Viña del Mar".

La sugerencia anterior también es correcta.
