Spanish to English translations [PRO] Sports / Fitness / Recreation | | Spanish term or phrase: golpe y **alto retenido** (golf) | Hello, in a description of a hole for a golf course:
Su green require de *****un golpe y alto retenido**** para evitar los bunkers que rodean la parte trasera del green y la pendiente que desvia los golpes que llegan rodando hacia la derecha.
The initial part of the description goes like this:
la salida juega un papel clave en el devenir del hoyo. Los bunkers a ambos lados exigen un golpe con linea si se quiere obtener renta del hoyo. El segundo golpe podrá efectuarse a la zona del green o bien a colocar pasado el grupo de bunkers del centro de la calle.

| | high rate of back spin or "bite" | Explanation: In golf, when a ball flies with a high rate of "back spin" and hits the green, it will stop or roll backwards, opposite to the original flight direction. I believe that's what they call "alta retención", i.e. the ball stops quickly on the green and doesn´t roll into the bunkers at the back of the green. Hope this helps. |
