Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Sports / Fitness / Recreation / Snowboarding trick | | Spanish term or phrase: count tres | I'm translating the subtitles of a snowboarding video. In this section, the snowboarder is describing the tricks he did at a competition. (If it helps for understanding what kind of trick this is, the competition was the Nike 6.0 Stairset Battle Tour--they are doing tricks over a set of stairs. See http://vimeo.com/17794164 to get an idea of the feature he was working on--a set of stairs with a rail and a "down-flat" section)
The snowboarder says:

That's it for context.
"count tres" must be some kind of trick--a "backside 3" is a kind of trick. However, I haven't been able to find out anything more about this particular trick, and I'm not a trick snowboarder myself!
It's also possible that this is not the exact term...in the transcription I received, the words "count tres" were highlighted (along with one other term in the text), which makes me believe that the subtitler was not sure about what the athlete said. Unfortunately, I do not have the audio or video file.

A "backside tres" is a backside 360, a pretty standard (albeit difficult) move, by all accounts (my son, who knows about skateboarding, told me this).
But the only thing I can see that "count" might be is "counter-rotation", and similarly the "tres" is presumably short for 360:

Hmm, well, I don't feel at all confident here, but:
"Counter-rotation" (if this is what "count" refers to) means "Basic body movement where the upper body rotates in the opposite direction to the board during a rotational movement."

So it seems "counter" is a way of initiating a turn; it's not specifically backside or frontside (which refer to whether the front or the back of the rider's body are facing towards the outside of the arc of rotation).

But whether "count 3" means a "reverse 360", I'm afraid I don't know. All I really have to contribute here is the suggestion that "count" may be short for "counter". |
