Spanish term or phrase: cosecharon una primera derrota
Traduciendo al inglés un artículo de fútbol, encuentro esta expresión " cosecharon su primera derrota", normalmente "cosechamos" como una victoria, pero al utilizar "derrota" no se me ocurre como traducirlo al inglés. Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance!!!!

they were inflicted a first defeat

Explanation:
In French too we use the word "récolter" with this meaning.
Après un main dans la surface de réparation, il récolta un penalty.

disagree  Simon Bruni: This is ungrammatical. You would have to say something like "a first defeat was inflicted upon them"

they garnered a first defeat

Explanation:
This verb uses the same idea as "cosechar", as in to gather in a harvest, reap. And it similarly would suggest something successful but can be used negatively in the same way.

agree  Dr Neil Ashby: I like 'tasted their first defeat' - this is about Mourinho's team - it was the first time a team of his lost at home for 8 years.
