Spanish term or phrase: benjamín
Hi there,

I was wondering what the specific name is in English for this sports category.

Categorías de fútbol: benjamín, alevín, infantile, cadete, juvenile y amateur

Thanks in advance,

Explanation:
In Spain, "benjamín" is under 10, but older than "pre-benjamín", which is under 8.

"Sub-12 alevín de segundo año
Sub-11 alevín de primer año
Sub-10 benjamín de segundo año
Sub-9 benjamín de primer año
Sub-8 pre-benjamín de segundo año
Sub-7 pre-benjamín de primer año"
http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fútbol_base

We don't have names like this for age categories in English. "Junior", "infants" and so on are far too vague.

Spanish Federation rule:

"Benjamines y Benjamin Femenino; los que cumplan
nueve años a partir del 1º de enero de la temporada en curso,
hasta el 31 de diciembre del año natural en que cumplan los diez."

So they are 9 or 10 years old. See my answer to "alevín" for a comparison with the rule for English football.
