Spanish term or phrase: pantalla
A technique used in handball. In my text it appears in a list alongside "cortina" (which I have put in a separate question) and no further information is given. I have found this context on-line, which I hope will provide some help:

"Acciones de invasiones, cruces, cortinas y pantallas para desordenar la defensa y favorecer el lanzamiento exterior"

Any thoughts?

screen
Explanation:
I think this term is more related to the position of the players than to the ball itself. The English equivalent for this Spanish handball term is "screen".

"BASIC STRATEGY:

Offense:
Use set "plays" that employ picks & screens to beat the defense & goalie"

Looks like the obvious translation was the right one in this case. This is the one I went with. Thanks to you, Ion, and to everyone else for your help.

screen ball

Explanation:
I have no knowledge of handball whatsoever, but 'screen ball' does seem to exist:

"4.) Screen ball. Any ball rebounding from the front wall so close to the body of a defensive player that it interferes with or prevents the offensive player from having a clear view of the ball. The referee should be careful not to make the screen call so quickly that it takes away an offensive advantage."
