Spanish term or phrase: nada mas porque sí o para motivar
More text from the company survey conducted in Chile: I find the wording of the above phrase rather confusing. It's part of a longer sentence that read, "Debería haber requisitos o un tiempo para darla y no nada mas porque sí o para motivar."

My understanding from the text is that the person doesn't favor company practices that amount to awarding people for doing nothing. Here he's criticizing the practice of giving out positions (promotions?) to people as a means of motivating them to improve their performance. He feels that positions should be granted only to people who meet certain requirements or who have put in a certain amount of time with the company. My concern? I'm uncertain of the best way to word the translation of the sentence in general and the above phrase in particular. Any suggestions are welcome, and TIA!

not just for the sake of it or as a way of motivating them

Explanation:
no nada más = no sólo
porque sí = "just because" (implying without a good reason, just because you feel like it)

For "para motivar" you could just put "to motivate them" or "in order to motivate them". And depending on the preceding context, it may be better to put "people" rather than "them".
