navigation/surfing (decision) tree
My understanding of this is that we are talking about 'decision trees',from the field of maths/statistics, whereby one can choose to continously 'branch off' all the way up a tree, and retreat to go up another branch, as one does when surfing/navigating - we choose an option to explore and may, within that option choose one of many options, ad infinitum or come to a dead-end and return back to where we started, only to head off in a different direction.
