Tech/Engineering / steel - blast furnaces
Spanish term or phrase: petacas
Description of a blast furnace:

The drawing they refer to doesn't show what they are, just their position. I believe these are probably cooling plates, based on texts/diagrams in English, but can't find any confirmation of that. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

Hello Cindy,

you are right, this is how we call it at the factory. I have worked at the blast furnace in Northern Spain and they call them cooling plates.

Here are some proposals in case you need them for your translation:

petaca - cast slab/ slab boom / slab
petaca aislada (horno alto) - isolated cooling plate
petaca de etalaje (horno alto) - bosch cooling plate
petaca de piquera (horno alto) - iron-notch cooling plate
petaca de refrigeración (horno alto) - cigar cooler
petaca del quemador - nose

It´s kind of complex stuff, I know. Ask again if you need specific help. Cheers!
