maintenance engineer/building supervisor/maintenance man Explanation: From Termium: English:Occupational Titles Building Maintenance maintenance engineer s 1996-05-09 Believe it or not, this is current terminology for what used to be the "janitor" and, later, the "building supervisor" or "supe"; also used to be known as the "maintenance man". *Encargado* in Spanish is also a way to show "respect" (to a certain degree) to someone who is in charge of building maintenance. The "encargado" in the condiminium I used to live in, in Mexico, also got called "don", whereas the guy who took care of the garden wasn't an "encargado" and got called by his first name without any adornments.
